SF IndieFest – Fanboys

Here’s a couple of shots from the Fanboys screening at the San Francisco IndieFest two weeks ago.

The RL/501st were out in force, and the passers by in the Mission were kind of freaked out to see so much activity at this small theater.

Photo with some of the cast and crew, including Kyle Newman (Director), Jamie King, Dan Fogler (Hutch), Chris Marquette (Linus), and Sam Huntington is hidden in there somewhere.

Movie and Q&A was scheduled to start around 9pm, so we showed up around 8pm and were mobbed the entire time we were there

Once the movie started we did get a chance to take some shots without the crowd

Uncle George was supposed to show, but didn’t – not sure what happened – but to be honest it was around 10:30pm at this point, so I can’t blame him for not showing.

We were supposed to head over to the after show party at Cellspace at 11pm, but I decided to skip it because the crowds were too much for Artoo.

Fanboys SF Charity Premier

Last night was the SF charity premier of the Fanboys movie, and Gerard and I were there with Artoo.

We started the evening off at the Metreon Theater and hung out and entertained the crowd as they waited in line.

We did get to see the movie and I can report that it’s really good, not quite what I was expecting, but lots of fun and fans will definitely like it.

There was also a Q&A session with some of the cast and crew, and we got to hear some of the behind the scene decisions and gossip.

Kyle Newman (Director), Chris Marquette (Linus), Dan Fogler (Hutch), Jamie King.

On the way out we had a hard time getting thru the crowds, usually it’s kids that follow as if we were the pied piper, but it was the grown-ups this time.

By 9:30 we were done at the theater and rushing over to the party at Otis, a tiny club just off Union Square.  The place was so small and packed I was worried about taking Artoo inside, but we setup a small roped off area for people to take photos.

One last thing, Gerard spotted these giant “Holo Projectors” on the ceiling of the Theater

Big thank you to Gerard for all his help and for taking the majority of the photos above, and to GenArt for working with us to be at the event, and sharing their photos.

As usually more photos in the gallery.

Fanboys, A Star Wars road trip film opens this week

“Fanboys” opens this weekend, it takes place in 1998 where three friends, anxious for the release of “Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace”, attempt to break into George Lucas’ Skywalker Ranch to steal an advance print of the film. Their motivation, one of them is dying from cancer and wants to see it before he dies. The film is directed by Kyle Newman.

Some of the props and droids used in the movie were supplied by members of the R2 Builders Club, watch out for a R5 and a black imperial droid, oh and the Ewok head, that one belongs to Mike Senna.

With a bit of luck you might see droids at the various premiers around the country starting tomorrow in LA and in San Francisco on Wednesday.
